McAninch Trail Head

In 2003, Fort Armstrong Horseman's Association had an opportunity to purchase 60 cleared acres of nice rolling ground that had been for sale for many years. This 60 acres is located in Kittanning and Burrell Townships, Armstrong County. The property lies between Camp Road and Kerr Road, one mile off of Little Germany Road (state round 2016). Our permanent trail systems just happens to go right through this land. The Crooked Creek Horse Park is about a 5 mile ride to and from the property via the Covered Bridge Trail. The Covered Bridge Trail and the Horney Camp Lollipop Loop Trail are within short distances of the property line. The trail that continues through the property goes on to Cochrans Mills, allowing access to the rest of the trails at Cherry Run and Crooked Creek as well as continuing on to Crooked Creek Horse Park.

We have purchased this land for development into a Trail Head type facility for folks to camp and trail ride. We hope to have dusk to dawn lighting, pavilions, vault toilet, and water for horses available for primitive camping this year. Your input as trail riders and campers is needed and we welcome your suggestions. And as always, a helping hand is always appreciated. We're grateful for our friends and members who pitch in and help by mowing, building, fixing, etc. Without you, we wouldn't have such a great place to ride and camp. Keep an eye on the calendar, more work days will be posted as they are scheduled.

Directions to the property are below and there is a map on the location page.
