Frequently Asked Questions

Do you rent horses?
No.

Do I have to be a member to use the park and its facilities?
No, Crooked Creek Horse Park is open to non-members. Although, non-members will pay higher fees to use the park facilities.

Is the park always open?
The park is open year-round. However, during the larger events, we may be at full capacity for camping and stall rental. During peak season (May to September) you can check the CALENDAR to determine if space is available. There you will find links to more info regarding the event, or telephone numbers to contact the person in charge of the event.

Can I come there to camp when events are on?
Yes - if space is available.
FAHA has been working with show managers on trying to make the park available to trail riders and campers during the larger events, which previously closed the park to them. If there are camper hook-ups available, they can be used by trail riders and campers, and primitive camping is always available. Fees will be as per CCHP rules for members and non-members. Please see the CCHP grounds manager and/or the show manager on those dates about stall and hook up availability. If any other show dates become available, that information will be posted on the calendar page. Please contact the event office for that event to determine if campsites are still available.

What are the camping facilities available?
We have sites ranging from primitive (no electric/water) to sites with electric/water hook-up. Water wells are located at various places throughout the camping area. The park also has bathrooms, showers and picnic areas.

What are the trails like?
We have approximately 35 miles of trail. Some are very easy and some are very rugged. You can review trail descriptions here.

What is the cost to camp?
Non-members pay $15 per day with or without electric/water hookup. Stalls are $10 per day when available. This cost includes stall cleaning - bedding is not provided.

Where else can I camp?
In 2003, Fort Armstrong Horseman's Association had an opportunity to purchase 60 cleared acres of nice rolling ground that had been for sale for many years. This 60 acres is located in Kittanning and Burrell Townships, Armstrong County. The property lies between Camp Road and Kerr Road, one mile off of Little Germany Road (state route 2016). Our permanent trail systems just happens to go right through this land. The Crooked Creek Horse Park is about a 5 mile ride to and from the property via the Covered Bridge Trail. The Covered Bridge Trail and the Horney Camp Lollipop Loop Trail are within short distances of the property line. The trail that continues through the property goes on to Cochrans Mills, allowing access to the rest of the trails at Cherry Run and Crooked Creek as well as continuing on to Crooked Creek Horse Park. We have purchased this land for development into a Trail Head type facility for folks to camp and trail ride. We hope to have dusk to dawn lighting, pavilions, vault toilet, and water for horses available for primitive camping this year. Your input as trail riders and campers is needed and we welcome your suggestions.

Do I need a negative coggins to enter into the park?
NO, you do not need a negative coggins to enter into the park. However, some events (such as shows or clinics) may require to show proof of negative coggins. Please use the contact number listed by the event on the Calendar to find out for sure.
